Day 6- The Grand Canyon

Day 6: Grand Canyon

How ya'll doing Dopey day 3. Last night we went to bed under a beautiful starry Arizona sky until the temperature dropped below 40. Today we woke up at 4:30 A.M. to hike the Grand Canyon! It was super cold and a long walk there but it was totally worth it. We all had a choice between a 1 mile hike, a 3 mile hike, and a 6 mile hike.

Mile 6 was easy going down but was a challenge coming back up. The sight looking up at the canyon was mind-boggling. We made it through with the power of teamwork and finished with a near record time.

These are the real troopers right here!

Bromance. 😅
Attempting to stay hydrated...

Mile 1 was slight and breezy, very easy. We finished in time to get a delicious breakfast and go shopping. We got lots of pictures and lots of memories. Although short, it was a very sweet experience and we spent quality time with great friends.

Got to watch the beautiful sunrise by the Canyon.

So surreal.

Mile 3, we got to see chipmunks and squirrels. Going down was easy but there was a lot of tripping. We couldn't completely finish the hike due to an injured mule. On the way back, we listened to Ashley's music to keep our spirits up and drank a lot of water.

Felt on top of the world!

Main character moment.

Big smiles for three miles!

Keeping close with great friends!

One milers after a slight 0.5 miles.

Girl Gang!

Our own Dopey, Maddie, accomplished after the three mile hike!

Cheesing big!

The Chromebook background did no justice to this sight.

The mules were so cool to see (minus their feces everywhere on the trail.)

Donk the Grand Canyon Mule!!

After the Grand Canyon, there was a day of recuperation.

Shop till you drop!
First we started off with laundry and showers, many people didn't know how to do laundry so today was a day of learning!

"I don't wan't my mom to know I can do Laundry" -Palmer

Afterwards, there was a lot of packing and organizing until we ate the infamous stew...

Deaton Stew and Go-go juice (definitely made us  GO-GO, but apparently there was no laxatives.)

The Deaton Stew wasn't bad, many people liked it but there were rumors of fruit snacks and pretzels hidden inside of it...

And a full apple...

Subtle foreshadowing before the juice.

So excited!!!

Yum-yum!

Even staff love it!
Everyone dispersed and had a fun time. Some shopped, some ate, and some napped but overall everyone had a GRAND time. Many returned at 7 PM for our group sing a long.

Making calls to loved ones!

The sing-along was full of discombobulated volume and lacked talent but was full of spirit. Many laughs were shared and memories were made. The Grumpy, Emerson, and the group leader, Grant, led in guitar while our very own Dopey, Bryson, played the drum. Counselors Ashley and Maddi led the sing-a-long with great pride and excitement. Much progress was made from the first sing-a-long.

After the sing-a-long, Grant surprised us all with our very own Grand Canyon shirts. The shirts tell how we hiked the Grand Canyon by saying, "I hiked the Grand Canyon, down is optional but up is mandatory." We were very grateful although the dates were wrong.

Will having a bloody nose right before bed (this makes 7 bloody noses!!--Can you say its dry at the Grand Canyon??)

After that, everyone dispersed and prepared for bed to be ready for Las Vegas. Dopey out!!!
